Solar panels, solar-powered vehicle: Tony’s experiment

Tony To wants to build environmentally friendly homes.

So the 22-year-old undergraduate placed a lot of thought into the solar panels that power his three-bedroom property in Kansas.

“If I have to look at a farm, maybe they’ll have solar panels on top of it.”

Tony will also switch to biodiesel to power the engine of his vehicle, and will wear some sort of “eco-analyser” fitted to his outer clothes.

“I have to wear some sort of wind blocker. Just because I’m a heavy person,” he said.

But beyond the mechanics, he admits that finding a home that he can really put down roots in is hard.

“Building something like this, it takes more time and effort than you think,” he said.

Tony says there is a positive vibe around such developments, but some people react with negativity.

“Some people say, ‘oh, how much is it gonna cost?’ and I’m like ‘hey, it’s like building a Toyota’.”
